It was January 2023, and I was excited about the new year, a clean slate and an opportunity to reach new, bigger, bolder goals… Now, 6 months later I looked at my very short list of yearly goals, and I’m not even close to being half-way there 😅
This made me think of this famous quote by Bill Gates:
“Most people overestimate what they can achieve in a year and underestimate what they can achieve in ten years.”
Half-year is such a great moment to take stock of that progress you have (not) made and to re-calibrate to reach you yearly goals.
I’ve made a quick template with 7 questions to help me to that, and you can download it for free below as well.
If you’ve been hanging out with me for a while now, you won’t be surprised to see that the first question is about looking back and being grateful for all the goodness in the first half of the year.
And just because that quote from Bill Gates really scared me of not dreaming big enough for the next 10 years, the last question will help you do exactly that.
Set a timer for 20-30 minutes, get curious, and answer these quick 7 questions to design the second half of the year to be as you want it to be.
In other news, last week I went to Phillip Morris International to deliver a training on inclusive leadership for 100+ global leaders. It was a live-broadcast from their studio in Lausanne, and I was told not to wear white or green (still don’t know why!). I was a bit nervous about three cameras and an army of technicians, but as soon as I stepped in and saw that it was just a small and cosy room with everyone else behind the glass, I completely relaxed.
It went great! We looked at what inclusive leadership is, discussed the core traits of inclusive leaders and how they translate into everyday behaviours, and looked at a model to help us define how inclusive we truly are.
We had a poll, a quick visualisation exercise that got a lot of “AHAs!”, a world cloud and break-out rooms and we somehow managed it all in an hour.
7 questions to look back with kindness and plan your future with hope and enthusiasm!
Take a few minutes to reflect on your journey so far, make intentional choices about your goals and dreams, and use wisely the upcoming six months to make them a reality.
